To me, Pure White always seems to visibly pale in comparison to other whites around my home, such as the white vinyl fence outside, the white metal chairs around my dining table, and the cotton linens in my bedroom. I personally prefer warmer whites to cooler whites, which is why I chose BM White Dove for my second house, and I am now considering the daunting task of painting over the SW Pure White used on my original construction. It feels cold to me, even in my house with wood floors and tons of natural light. SW Pure White does not have a warm undertone at all- if anything, I’d say it leans cool, because it seems to have a hint of gray in it. The warmer white allows the floors and trim to really stand out without being too harsh or overwhelming. I felt that it worked well in my historic bungalow which has a lot of dark oak woodwork I wanted to showcase the original wood but also minimize the inevitable contrast between the wood and the plain white plaster walls. During the day, however, it is a gorgeous bright white. White Dove has a warm, creamy undertone which is very visible in low light- this does not bother me. Recently, I bought a 1925 Craftsman bungalow to use as a vacation home which I chose to paint BM White Dove.

My new construction was sprayed down with SW Pure White inside and out six years ago. SW Pure White feels cool and modern to me. BM White Dove is definitely a warmer white, which I think has a more traditional feel. This is currently an older thread, but if any of you are still wondering about these two specific paint colors, I have experience living with both.
